Edmonton Maternity Photographer {Jyoti Sneak Peek}

I can't believe we are already half way through September (and on another note that we have already seen snow) My busiest time of year is here and that means lots of sneak peeks from fall mini sessions on Facebook and Instagram, but less blog posts as I take on less newborn and maternity families in the fall. If you are expecting this winter though, or are looking to book winter family photos or an in home lifestyle session in winter 2017, now is definitely the time to book. I will be releasing winter mini session dates soon!

This gorgeous couple is expecting their first baby and I am so excited to have the opportunity to also do a fresh 48 session and newborn session for them very soon. I can't wait to hear the news that their baby boy has arrived. Jyoti looked absolutely stunning in her final weeks of pregnancy and the love between her and her husband was so beautiful and easy to capture, I can just imagine the joy in their eyes when they are looking at their new baby. Thank you both for this amazing opportunity to capture this special time in our lives. Wishing you all the best as you prepare for baby's arrival. Enjoy. {K}

Edmonton Family Photographer {Singh Family Sneak Peek}

Well that time is officially here, the equivalent of what summer is to wedding photographers or what spring is to accountants, fall is family photo season. Most families booked me last year to make sure they got one of my weekend evening sessions and I filled most of my September and October spots by the end of July. To say it is going to be a busy couple of months would be an understatement; with kids also starting new activities, trying to find balance might be a bit difficult the next couple of months. Please understand if it takes me a bit longer to respond to your emails or messages or get your sneak peek up. Thank you all so much for the amazing support the last few years, I am so lucky to do what I do.

I met this gorgeous family this past weekend in one of my favorite places in my small community. Devon Voyageur Park is a hidden gem for many, and I am loving sharing it with so many of my Edmonton families. This family was so easy to photograph, so happy and in love, and we had the most amazing light and colors as a backdrop. The family dog Thor, the cutest tiny puppy ever, even smiled nice for the camera. Kristelle and Ricky, thank you so much for having me capture your family, your girls were just delightful. Wishing you all the best. Enjoy. {K}

Edmonton Family Photographer {What to Wear for Fall Family Photos}

School is in full swing, the days are getting cooler, fall is almost here; which means the busiest time of the year for me, photographing your beautiful families. I often get several emails leading up to fall mini sessions asking for advice on what to wear. I generally refer you to Pinterest where there are thousands of pins on what to wear. This year, since my family is prepping for family photos ourselves, I thought I would share the fool proof way I dress our family for photos as well as some dos and don'ts that always apply.

Walk in any store, or browse any store online and it won't take to long to find pieces for the whole family that coordinate nicely together. So step one is decide where to shop. Some of my favorites for the whole family - Old Navy, H&M, Zara, Target, Joe Fresh, Gap.

Everyone is generally afraid of patterns, but I'm telling you right now, a simple pattern is ok as long as not everyone is wearing it. I like to limit it to two patterns in my family of five, and luckily I was able to find a pretty feminine blouse for myself that coordinated well with the bolder pattern I chose for two of my girls. Here are the patterns.

Now this is where  coordinating the rest of the family gets easy. If you look at both patters you can easily pull out four colors that coordinate beautifully. Maroon, Navy, Mustard and White.

Now it is time to shop for the rest of the family using the colors pulled from your pattern as your color guide - easy, right?

Some things I am looking for when shopping for my girls are clothes that are comfortable and that have some detail or movement to them. Dresses are great options for younger girls for some candid spinning photos. For boys, look for shirts with collars or pocket but avoid any logos or wording. Again a simple pattern, like plaids for boys or florals for girls are great options. My husband usually gets the color that is left over, which in this case was navy. While collard shirts are great options for guys, my husband is almost always in a t-shirt so I got him a navy tee with some button and pocket detail. Pair your top with well fitted jeans and some accessories and you are ready to go.

Here is what we ended up with, all from Old Navy. Dresses for my two littlest, a blouse for my oldest and tops for my husband and I. I actually ended up with a tunic style top with some detail that I may wear instead of the blouse. I just love the pops of mustard yellow, perfect for fall.

What I love most about these clothes are that they are so us, clothes that we could easily find in our every day wardrobe. I know we will be comfortable in them and in turn be more relaxed in front of the camera.

Accessories will really pull your look together. Jewellery, scraves, and belts are great options for ladies.  Belts, watches and fun socks are great for the guys. You can never go wrong with a brown boot for fall, but any scuff free shoes will work and can add some personality to your photos.

Some do's and don'ts to always remember. Logos and any wording on clothing is a big don't. Avoid wearing white alone, and definitely don't try to be matchy matchy. Do choose timeless pieces - scarves, blazers, cardigans, simple outfits for baby. Patterns are ok, just keep them on a smaller scale.

I hope this proves helpful to you as you prepare for your family photos. I am so looking forward to seeing so many return families from last year and meeting some new families too. Thank you to everyone for all of your amazing support year after year. {K}

Edmonton & Area Family Photographer {Vaughn is one} Sneak Peek

This past spring we moved out to Devon, a little town just outside of Edmonton. We were drawn to the big lots, beautiful parks and trails and just the small town way of life. My business started in Edmonton, and I have been lucky to photograph many families from Edmonton and  surrounding areas, areas which I continue to serve. My goal this year though is definitely to reach my small town market and photograph families that call beautiful Devon home, or bring some Edmonton families out this way for a photoshoot down by the river, an absolutely gorgeous spot.

Lisa and Dallas grew up in Devon, but call the city home now. I was so excited when they suggested we do their session in Devon down in my favourite spot - Voyageur Park. They have had many special times here, so it seemed fitting to do their little guy Vaughn's first birthday photos here. We lucked out with a gorgeous evening full of light, and the park provided us with so many pretty backdrops from tree filled paths to the river that we of course dipped our toes into at the end. Vaughn was mister serious, but after some tosses in the air I was able to catch a couple sweet smiles, not that it mattered as he was so handsome with his big blue eyes and little bow tie. Lisa and Dallas, thank you so much for coming out this way and having me capture your sweet family. Wishing you all the best. Enjoy. {K}

Edmonton & Area Milestone Photographer {Maisie First Birthday} Sneak Peek

Milestones like first birthdays and anniversaries are a perfect time for family photos. First birthday sessions can be photos of just baby, a mix of family and baby or just family photos.  Anniversary can be of just the happy couple or of an whole extended family. The perfect way to capture a special time that you won't want to forget.

I met this adorable family on a sunny morning in one of my favorite spots in St. Albert. Little Maisie was a sweet as any almost 1 year old, full of smiles the day before she was to to turn one. Big brother took some convincing, but nothing some tickles couldn't fix. {K} family, thank you so much for having me capture your family during this special time. Hope Maisie had a wonderful first birthday. Enjoy. {K}
