Edmonton Newborn Photographer {Baby Liam}

Well it’s officially fall family session season and I am nearly booked solid between now and November! I still have a few weeknight evening fall session openings so if you are looking to book the leaves are already turning color and it’s not too late to capture some memories of your beautiful family. You can see all of my remaining 2019 family session openings here . The holiday season is also just around the corner and I am currently booking studio Christmas and Outdoor winter mini sessions for those of you looking for the perfect photo for this year’s Christmas cards - you can find all the details on Facebook. If you are having family visiting over the holidays too, now is definitely the time to book your extended family holiday season session; I had to turn away so many families last year who waited until October/November to book.

I met sweet baby Liam a few weeks ago during my flurry of summer babies and baby bumps. I have known this family since they welcomed their first baby boy Nate a couple years ago and I was so lucky to have them ask me to capture this special time for their family once again; on top of having me capture their family’s memories this family has also recommended me so many times and I cannot thank them enough, being referred is really the best compliment - from the bottom of my heart thank you both. Big brother Nate was definitely a typical toddler monkey during our session, but little Liam was just as sweet as pie so it all balanced out in the end and I just love how this session turned out. Derek and Amy, thank you again for inviting me into your gorgeous home to capture these memories for your family. Wishing you all the best as a family of 4 (or 5 including miss Piper). Enjoy. {K}

Edmonton Newborn Photographer {Baby Donovan}

Happy Thursday everyone, here is a rare afternoon post for you as last night got away from me and I never blogged this session as promised. Sending a huge thank you out to my mama who took my littlest for the afternoon so I could try and get somewhat caught up on my mountain of blogging, editing, packaging and sending USBS, banking, invoicing and some social media etc…if you were wondering what you are investing in when you book a session it’s not just the time I spend taking your photos, but all of the behind scenes stuff that takes place in order to deliver a professional quality experience to every family I am lucky to photograph. Pricing has been a hot topic as of late. I have shared this post on my personal Facebook page and had such a wonderful response and wanted to share here for every family that is thinking about investing in a session with me and as a thank you to everyone who has trusted me to capture their family’s precious memories and given me the opportunity to do a job that I love everyday. I’ve known some families for four years now and watching their families grow is really such an honour and privilege.

So something’s been on my mind.

I 100% understand everyone has a budget. I do, too. Everyone has bills and responsibilities. I do, too. We all do!
And a lot of people have their luxuries- or things they value highly.

Example: Most people have a smart phone. Those things aren’t cheap. But if it’s something you value, you invest.

Thing is- a lot of the stuff that’s expensive in our lives won’t last forever. My phone is only like 3 years old and it’s basically at the end of its life. Some people get a new phone everytime the new model comes out. That stuff isn’t cheap... but people place value to those things in their lives. If it matters to you, you’ll invest in it.

So here’s why I’m talking about this. I get really frustrated sometimes (a lot of photographers do) hearing about how we are too expensive... or our prices are ridiculous. Or cost “an arm and a leg.”

Because photography isn’t an outfit you’ll outgrow.
Photography isn’t a cell phone that’ll run too slow in two years.
Photography isn’t an accessory that’ll go out of style.
Or a car that won’t drive in 15 years.

Photographs are forever.
And photography is a way to capture life as it FLIES on by.

Photography is a way to remember how small your baby’s tiny toes were.
It’s a way to remember the smiles, the nose scrunches, the tears, the hugs, the heights, the tiny fingers and tiny toes, the kisses and the bonds.

It’s a snapshot into your lives at that very moment.
The moment’s that you can’t get back.

I promise you these photos you invest in won’t need a new battery and they won’t require a tune up.

They will exist for years and years to come.
When your kids are all like “Mom, you’re embarrassing me”
Or when your kids have somehow grown taller then you.
These photos will exist when your kids have moved into their own homes and have their own families.

They become priceless.
I’m writing this not to say HEY ignore your budgets!
No.
Not at all.
I’m writing this to maybe give you a different perspective. To educate about the importance of photography and why we all believe it’s a high priority. And maybe help you understand why we believe in the experience and product we give you.

Honestly, we just want you to love your photos and FEEL the memories flood back when you look upon them over the years.

When you invest in your photography, you invest in memories.
You invest in life.

It’s an honor to be apart of something so much bigger then myself and to be apart of your memories.

I met little Donovan a few weeks ago now and could not wait to share more from his session. First - oh my gosh that red hair, I don’t think in four years of photographing newborns I have ever met a more gorgeous ginger baby. And on top of that, 9.5 lbs. of pure baby squishiness. Sometimes I have to pinch myself, I really do photograph the most beautiful babies. This little guy is lucky to have two big sisters and you could just see the joy in their eyes and heart every time they got to hold or snuggle their new baby brother, so heart melting. Michelle Ann & Todd, thank you so much for inviting me into your beautiful home to capture this special time for your family. Wishing you all the very best as a family of five (or 6, we have to include Norman the Great Dane) .

Edmonton Newborn Photographer {Baby Xavier}

Summer sure came and went in a hurry this year! I met so many beautiful babies this summer that I am definitely playing catch up on my blog posts, so get ready for lots of beautiful squishy newborns featured over the next few weeks. Kids are off to school, well almost, my youngest will start pre-k in a couple weeks, and then I will hopefully have a bit more time to stay on top on editing and social media and everything else that goes along with running a successful photography business. I still have a few fall openings available so if you are thinking about booking a family or even an extended family session this fall this is your last call! Book your spot online here . Spots will fill up fast! Book Now

I have been so lucky to have watched this family grow since they welcomed their first baby Alena a few years ago and was so thrilled when they contacted my to photograph their second baby’s first year. A little brother Xavier for Alena, and oh my heart does she ever love him. I still remember her love of baby dolls and now she has her own real life baby, she had so many snuggles and kisses for her new baby brother, so heart melting. Brittany and Aaron, thank you so much for choosing me as your family photographer. I can’t wait to watch little Xavier grow. Wishing you all the best as a family of 4.

Only 3 more weeks until back to school Once again this summer has flown by. As mush as I love my girls this is around the time of summer I reach my breaking point and start to look forward to school - the routine and the few mornings I get of quiet with my littlest in pre-k this fall. This summer has been my busiest yet business wise, so trying to stay on top of blogging and editing has been a struggle with three kids almost constantly needing something or my puppy needing to be walked or entertained. I really appreciated all of my amazing clients who have been more than patient as I get caught up. Fall is right around the corner so I won’t be slowing down anytime soon - snap one of my last fall family session openings online today.

My last session of 2018 was held at the ice rink across the street from my home and it was to capture this amazing couple finding out they would be having a baby girl this summer! What a perfect way to end a year and look forward to a new one.

Ash and Nicole Reveal Session 4.jpg

Fast forward to July 20th and Miss Winnie Louise was finally here! I had photographed Nicole’s maternity session back at the beginning of June and thought baby would be here a lot sooner, but she definitely made her parents wait - but as well all know a sweet baby is always worth the wait. I got to meet her at just a week old and she was just a dream to photograph, and her nursery was something else, just perfect! Ash and Nicole, thank you so much for having me capture this very special time for your family. Wishing you all the best as a family of three (or five if we count the dogs!) . Enjoy! {K}

Edmonton & Area Maternity | Fresh 48 | Newborn Photographer {Baby Hendrix}

Back home from a fun and adventure filled family vacation to beautiful Montana, a place that I hope will be my second home one day. We are so lucky to have family to visit who take us to the most beautiful places in northern Montana - this time we boated on Holter Lake, hiked Slucie Boxes State Park and floated the Missouri River; and of course we set off a bunch of fireworks for 4th of July, much to the delight of my girls. Check out some of my favorite shots from our trip on Instagram. While there I was also lucky to do my cousin Katie’s senior portraits; Montana is such a pretty place you could get a great shot in the ditch, so the photos I got of her with the sunset and mountains and some horses as a backdrop are just gorgeous. The beautiful Katie will be featured on the blog soon or you could also see a few sneak peeks on IG.

My busy season is well underway, so many babies still on the way this month and lots of new families to meet and capture in the coming weeks. I can’t believe it but I am nearly fully booked for 2019 newborns, only 1-2 openings per month between August-December. If you are expecting this fall or winter, now is definitely the best time to book. Family session dates are also steadily filling up, a few last minute summer openings still available and fall is almost booked up. I am so thankful to all the families who have trusted me to photograph their family this year, I feel so blessed by the overwhelming support, especially for the families I see year after year and baby after baby - THANK YOU!

I’ve known Marisa for a few years now and have photographed her and her family and friends many times, so I was so excited to hear the news that she was expecting and wanted me to capture her baby boy’s first year. Sweet little Hendrix arrived a tiny bit earlier, as his mama expected he might. Luckily we snuck in a maternity session in the blossoms just in time as just a couple weeks later Hendrix arrived. I was so lucky to meet Hendrix when he was just over 12 hours old for a Fresh 48 session; 5 pounds of pure sweetness. Fresh 48 sessions capture those first days and moments in hospital that are so fleeting in the whirlwind of welcoming a new baby. I am always so honoured to capture these precious memories for families. Once everyone was home and settled we set up a time for me to come do Hendrix’s newborn photos. Big fur brother Cooper was the star of the show to start and then I was spoiled with the sleepiest most content little guy for Hendrix’s portraits. Marisa & Zack, thank you so much for choosing me to capture this special time, looking forward to see Hendrix grow up over the year. All the best. Enjoy.

Edmonton Fresh 48 & Newborn Photographer {Baby Brynn}

It’s officially spring break and after a fun weekend with family, including checking out the new Royal Alberta Museum (highly recommend!), I’m ready to enjoy having my kids home this week. We will do some baking, check out the new children’s area at the Telus World of Science, maybe go swimming, and hopefully get outside a lot, the perfect staycation. Hope you and your family have some fun planned for the week if it’s spring break for your kids too. With spring officially here and summer just around the corner now is absolutely the best time to book your 2019 family session. Weekend dates are all ready booking up into the fall. Some pointers again for picking the right season for photos - late May means cherry blossoms, late July canola fields (and bugs!), fall officially starts in September but colors are usually best between mid September and early October, and winter makes the perfect backdrop for holiday photos or extended family sessions when everyone is together for the holidays. Click the button below to see current openings.

I am so lucky to have the absolute honour of capturing this beautiful family for their baby girl’s first year. I got to meet Brynn when she was just hours old for a Fresh 48 session. Fresh 48 sessions are done in hospital when baby is 12-48 hours old, usually timed for when older siblings come to meet their new baby or brother or sister for the first time. The pure love and joy that surrounds a new baby those first days is full of precious moments that are so fleeting and I am so lucky to freeze time for these families. Fresh 48 sessions can be booked alone or at a discounted rate when booked with a newborn session or first year packages.

A couple short weeks later I photographed sweet little Brynn again for her newborn photos. It is always fun to see how families are adjusting to having a new little one and I am always amazed how much babies can change in as little as 10 days. Miss Brynn was so alert and spent a lot of time awake before melting into her dad’s arms and drifting off to sleep for her posed portraits. Big brother Chase was full of love for his new sister and even though he was a typical busy toddler, we got some very adorable snuggly shots of him and his sister. I cannot wait to see this family again later this year when Brynn is ready for her sitter session, the time will fly by I am sure. Meghan and Garret, thank you so much for having me capture this special time for your family. I am looking forward to getting to know you more this year and wish you all the very best as a family of four. Love {K}.

Edmonton Newborn Photographer {Baby George}

Spring is finally here and I couldn’t be happier. Walks to the park, rubber boots and puddles, I love this time of year. The snow will be gone before we know it and my spring and summer dates will begin to book up - if a bug free spring family session with a little bit of puddle jumping appeals to you be sure to check out my available session dates here limited April and May openings available. Mommy & Me studio sessions are also coming up for Mothers Day on April 27th - visit me on Facebook to learn more. I have so much to look forward to this spring, my first Mama & Camera’s class and so many spring newborns. I was also thrilled to learn my favorite newborn photographers Hello Baby Photography will be in BC this summer for a workshop and lucky me I get to go! The most amazing thing about being a photographer is that there is endless opportunities to grow and learn and I am so lucky to have the opportunity to learn from the best photographers from around the world.

I was so lucky to meet this sweet family earlier this year for a maternity session and again for an in home newborn session just over a week ago once baby George arrived. Photographing families in the comfort of their home has a special spot in my heart, I love using the background of their home to really capture the story of those early days with a newborn. Big brother Cooper wasn’t camera shy at all and made my job so much fun. Little George was surprisingly wide awake for being just 6 days old, but drifted off to sleep once I got him into his comfy spot - he loved being on his side. Robyn and Aaron, thank you so much for inviting me into your beautiful home to capture your family and this special time. Wishing you all the best as a family of four. Love, K.

Edmonton Newborn Photographer {Baby Tenleigh}

I spent the first day of 2019 photographing one of my oldest friend’s baby girl in my home studio. Miss Tenleigh (just love her name!) arrived just in time to be enjoyed over Christmas. I have know Tamalea since Kindergarten, so long ago. We lost touch for awhile but motherhood has brought us back together and I am so happy to have her and her sweet family back in my life. Tamalea and Matt, thank you so much for always having me capture your family’s beautiful moments. Wishing you all the best as a family of four. Love {K}

Edmonton Newborn Photographer {Baby Eddie} Sneak Peek

I can't believe we are already in the last week of July, this summer is flying by way too fast! Headed over the canola fields just outside of town this evening to snap some photos of my girls, such a pretty Alberta summer landscape but they come and go in a matter of weeks. Still looking to book a summer family session - perhaps in the canola fields? I have 4 openings left in July & August and at $50 off they will book up quickly. I also announced in my previous post that I will not be hosting fall mini sessions this year - I did however add a couple weekend spots in mid September and early October that I am sure won't last long. Book your session now with my easy online booking tool - just click the button below.

I have been fortunate to meet so many brand new babies this July and little Eddie was one of my first. I just love meeting new parents, and this couple was just glowing with happiness and love for their first born and each other in their new roles as parents. My wrapping skills have definitely reached a high level after nearly 100 newborn sessions and I always giggle a little inside when new parents ask where to buy the wraps and watch intently as I wrap their little ones - Andrea & Blair hope some wrapping tips helped you get a good night's sleep after our session! Sweet little Eddie was just a dream to capture and I had the prettiest light to work with in the lower level of the family's beautiful home. Andrea & Blair thank you so much for inviting me into your home to capture this special time for your family.  Wishing you all the best as family of three. Enjoy! {K}

Edmonton Newborn Photographer {Baby Mila} Sneak Peek

Wow, Is May ever flying by. Before I know it school will be out and my busy summer and fall will begin. I am currently on the road in beautiful Montana on our way to visit family and a very special girl that I had the pleasure of photographing last summer. Be sure to check out my stories on Instagram to follow our family's first road trip of the year. Now that we are officially into spring my 2018 is booking up fast - thanks so much to all of the amazing families that have booked so far. If you are looking for summer or fall family photos or a 2018 newborn session, now is definitely time to book as my availability is very limited.

Miss Mila was the first of many May newborns that I am lucky to photograph this month. I was just as shocked as her mama when I heard she weighed a healthy 11 pounds at birth, one of the biggest babies I've photographed in awhile, but oh my heart those baby rolls and chubby cheeks! Sibling shots are usually my favorites of any newborn session, but big sister Ellie was so full of love and kisses for her baby sister my heart melted from the first shot on, so so sweet. Stephanie and Brett, it has been so wonderful getting to know you this past year and thank you so much for inviting me into your home to capture this special time. Enjoy. {K}
